BOWLING GREEN, KY/MAY 30, 2018 – Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. has announced the 2018 recipients of its Spirit for Education Scholarship:

  • Haley Marsh, a senior at Allen County-Scottsville High School. Haley plans to attend the University of Louisville to pursue a degree in Social Work.
  • Alyssa Welch, a senior at Allen County-Scottsville High School. Alyssa plans to attend Western Kentucky University to pursue a degree in Agribusiness.
  • Zoe Ramsay, a senior at Siegel High School. Zoe plans to attend Middle Tennessee State University to pursue a degree in Agribusiness.
  • Lauren Riffe, a senior at Allen County-Scottsville High School. Lauren plans to attend Western Kentucky University to pursue a degree in Biology.

The Sumitomo Spirit for Education Program was created in 1997 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the founding of Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. This year the scholarship provides a one-time award of $3,000 to children of associates who plan to attend an accredited college, university, or vocational school.

Awards are selected from the following criteria:

  • Academic Achievement and Potential
  • Extracurricular Activities, Community Service, and work Experience
  • Appraisal Letters from Teachers or Community Leaders
  • Personal Statement of Goals

Scholarship applications were accepted from children of SEWS associates located across the United States, with four seniors receiving the award. This program has awarded 96 scholarships to date, totaling over $143,500 in the 21 years of its existence. We are happy to support the children of SEWS associates in the pursuit of their academic endeavors.
