In May 2022, Louisville Worksite Wellness Council presented SEWS’ Wired Up wellness program
with a Worksite Wellness Award. This year’s event was a condensed version of the typical awards application due to the inability of many companies to continue their Wellness Programs in the same manner as pre-pandemic due to COVID-19. Applicants for the award selected a few specific areas to highlight and tell how their companies achieved success in categories such as Tobacco Cessation, Disease Management, Physical Activity/Weight Management/Nutrition, Mental Health, Musculoskeletal Disorders, Vaccine-Preventable Diseases and/or Maternal Health and Lactation Support.

SEWS’ award was presented in the category of Physical Activity/Weight Management/Nutrition. A highlight of the submission is shown on the Louisville Worksite Wellness Council’s website and reads as follows…One employee at their Lexington location lost 116 pounds by using their wellness program. This employee took it step-by-step with better eating habits and more exercise. Their testimonial shows the support of the program and how it wasn’t easy, but the encouragement they received helped them to continue their successful efforts.

In September 2020, SEWS’ Wired Up for Wellness program was recognized by Louisville’s
Worksite Wellness Council as a recipient of the Platinum Award for the sixth year in a row. This
award is given to small, medium and large businesses in Kentucky that demonstrate leadership in promoting health strategies for their employees.

ThIs year, the council added a new award called the Workplace Agility Award to honor company wellness programs that adapted their programs to COVID-19. SEWS’ Wired Up for Wellness program won this award, too!

Jeanie Dickerson, RN and Corporate Wellness Coordinator, said that the 94% of company
associates who participate in the SEWS’ Wired Up for Wellness program were sent a big packet of activities so that they could continue earning wellness points over the spring, summer and fall. SEWS adapted in many other ways too, and the feedback from associates has been positive. As one person wrote to Jeanie, “Im happy to report I feel healthier than I was when the pandemic started.”

Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems’ (SEWS) Wellness Program was recently recognized at the annual Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Movement Worksite Wellness Awards, which was held as a virtual event due to the pandemic.  This is the sixth year in a row that SEWS has received a wellness award for their outstanding program.

The awards are presented by the Worksite Wellness Council which recognizes small, medium and large businesses that lead the way in implementing health promotion strategies that include topics such as nutrition, physical activity, and tobacco control. 

Jeanie Dickerson RN, Corporate Wellness Coordinator, accepted the Platinum Award as well as the Workplace Agility Award from the Louisville Worksite Wellness Council.  The Workplace Agility Award is newly created this year to honor company wellness programs which adapted their programs to COVID-19.

The awards are based on the nationally recognized CDC Worksite Wellness Scorecard. Points are assigned for proven health promotion strategies in several areas, including tobacco control, nutrition, physical activity, and stress management.

Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. (SEWS) was recently recognized for its exemplary safety record at the 32nd Annual Governor’s Safety and Health Conference, held in Louisville, Kentucky on May 12th. Two SEWS facilities received the prestigious Governor’s Safety and Health award for working a combined 2,469,811 hours without a lost time accident.

Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. (SEWS) manufacturing plants in Scottsville and Edmonton, Kentucky were invited to attend the annual conference, which recognizes businesses that do not have any safety or health violations and have not experienced any lost time injuries or illnesses.

“We are proud of the effort and dedication our associates make in order to keep themselves and their fellow associates safe,” said Scottsville Plant Manager Alan Bomar. “Even with busy and demanding schedules, our associates continued to keep their focus on safety. We are honored to be recognized by the state once again for our safety standards.”

The Governor’s Safety Award program focuses on promoting safety and health awareness as well as reducing overall injuries and illnesses in the work environment. SEWS was among 48 Kentucky businesses to receive the award.

The Glorious Excellent Award is given to companies who generate comprehensively excellent results regarding business performance, safety, quality, legal compliance and more.

The award ceremony was created to applaud activities and teams recognized for their outstanding achievements made over the last five years as part of the Group Global Awards System, as well as to ensure that the vision and business policies are shared throughout the corporate group toward achieving Vision 2022.

The certificate of commendation reads, “This achievement is due to the fact that all of your employees fully understand group policy and have done their utmost to achieve Group goals. As such, your company is an excellent example for others.”

BOWLING GREEN, KY / MAY 10, 2018 – – Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. (SEWS) Edmonton, Kentucky Plant recently attended the KY Governor’s Safety and Health Conference, held in Bowling Green, Kentucky on May 10^th. SEWS Edmonton received the prestigious KY Governor’s Safety and Health award for working 3,828,563 hours without a lost injury as of 12/31/2017.

SEWS-Edmonton continued their safety record by achieving 4,000,000 hours worked without a lost time injury in April 2018, and celebrated these great accomplishments during the week of April 9^th with games, prizes, and a steak lunch.
