Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2022 Spirit
for Education Scholarship.
They are:
- Maria Dodson, daughter of Franklin associate Michael Dodson. Maria attended Barren Academy of Virtual and Expanded Learning. She plans to attend Murray State University in the fall and will pursue a degree in Computer Science. After completing her degree, she hopes to work in IT.
- Autumn Moss, daughter of Edmonton associate Kelly Moss. Autumn attended Barren
County High School. She plans to attend Western Kentucky University in the fall and will pursue a degree in Business. After completing her degree, she hopes to continue her education by pursuing a Master’s degree in Education. Autumn hopes to one day teach business to high school students. - Emily Smeu, daughter of Detroit associate Mariana Smeu. Emily attended Troy High School. She plans to attend Oakland University in the fall and will pursue a degree in Actuarial Studies. After completing her degree, she hopes to continue her education by pursuing a Master’s degree in a similar field.
- Kaithlyn Villaluna, daughter of OCSC associate Raquel Villaluna. Kaithlyn attended
Marysville Early College High School. She plans to attend Ohio State University at Marion in the fall and will pursue a degree in Psychology. After completing her degree, she hopes to work as a therapist.                                                                                                                         The Sumitomo Spirit for Education Scholarship Program was created in 1997 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the founding of Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. The scholarship provides one-time awards of at least $3,000 to children of associates planning to attend an accredited college, university or vocational school.                                                                                                                                                An outside selection committee made up of community leaders, government officials and educators, selects recipients based on the following criteria:
• Academic Achievement and Potential
• Extracurricular Activities, Work Experience and Community Service
• Appraisal Letters from Teachers or Community Leaders, and
• Personal Statement of Goals - We are happy to be able to support the children of SEWS associates in the pursuit of their academic endeavors.
