Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2023 Spirit for Education Scholarship. 

Recipients are: 

  • Nathaniel Bingham, son of associate Andy Bingham who works onsite at TMMI (Toyota Indiana). Nathaniel attended Gibson Southern High School.  He plans to attend University of Evansville in the fall and will pursue a Mechanical Engineering degree.  After completing his degree, Nathaniel hopes to work as an engineer in the automotive industry.
  • Alec Duncan, son of Scottsville associate David Duncan.  Alec attended Bowling Green High School.  He plans to attend Murray State University in the fall and will pursue a degree in Finance and continue studying Spanish.  After completing his degree, Alec hopes to pursue a career in international finance.
  • Gracie Hodges, daughter of Edmonton associate Roger Hodges. Gracie attended South Warren High School.  She plans to attend University of Kentucky in the fall and will pursue a Nursing Degree.  After completing her degree, Gracie hopes to help people working as a nurse.
  • Jesus Perez, son of ECSC associate Oscar Reyes. Jesus attended Pebble Hills High School.  He plans to attend the University of Texas at El Paso in the fall and will pursue degrees in both Organization & Corporate Communication and in Musical Theatre.  After completing his degrees, he hopes to pursue a career in Public Relations and Acting.    
  • Aaron Shain, son of Scottsville associate Jonathan Shain. Aaron attended Allen County Scottsville High School.  He plans to attend the Lindsey Wilson College in the fall and will pursue a degree in Engineering.  After completing his degree, Aaron hopes to work as an engineer.  

The Sumitomo Spirit for Education Scholarship Program was created in 1997 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the founding of Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. The scholarship provides one-time awards of at least $3,000 to children of associates planning to attend an accredited college, university or vocational school. 

An outside selection committee made up of community leaders, government officials and educators, selects recipients based on the following criteria: 

• Academic Achievement and Potential

• Extracurricular Activities, Work Experience and Community Service

• Appraisal Letters from Teachers or Community Leaders, and

• Personal Statement of Goals

We are happy to be able to support the children of SEWS associates in the pursuit of their academic endeavors.
